Biking Along Pennsylvania's Youghiogheny River Trail, North Section
This 43-mile trail is beautiful and fantastic.
The surface is hard-packed crushed limestone.
It runs from Connellsville to
McKeesport, following the Youghiogheny River (pronounced yock-ah-GAIN-ee,
and typically called "the Yough") to where it
merges with the Monongahela River.
On this trail you ride through open country and through small towns.
There is a beautiful little park, Cedar Creek Park, along the trail that has picnic tables
under large shade trees right beside the river. On a really hot day,
it's like an oasis. There are lots of pleasant places to stop and beautiful
sights to see; it's well worth the ride.
The trail joins the Youghiogheny River Trail, South Section,
at Connellsville and is part of a
trail network that will eventually go from Pittsburgh to Washington,
DC (180 miles!). For further information, see:
