Riding in the Winston-Salem Area
There is a service road around Salem Lake that has become
a popular trail for hiking, bicycling and horse back riding.
It connects with the Winston-Salem greenway. The
greenway begins at the north east corner of the
Market Place Mall on Peters Creek Parkway in Winston-Salem.
It is paved and is about four miles in length.
The service road around the lake is dirt, but it is
in good condition.
We enjoy the unpaved road best, so that's where we always
ride. The ride around the lake is approximately seven miles.
The trail can be accessed from Linville Road
just south of Business I-40 but the parking lot there is small.
Larger parking lots are at the other side of the lake at
the fishing station area. That area is at the end of
Salem Lake Road, which is off Reynolds Park Road
approximately a mile west of the Reynolds Park Golf Course.
For further information about the lake, call 336-650-7677.
We particularly enjoy this trail on warm winter days,
early spring and late fall,
when the leaves are off the trees.
Then there is no
underbrush to block the view, and you can see all
across the lake from every location.
