Bicycling in the Beautiful Virginia Mountains
This is a 34-mile gravel and dirt surface that is
normally in very good riding condition with end
points in Abingdon and White Top Mountain (a
1,500-foot climb!). The trip down the mountain
is breathtaking, riding beside and over (there
are more trestles than you will care to count!)
a rushing mountain stream.
Check out the official website for this trail:
Virginia Creeper Trail.
There you will find all the information you need, including weather
forecast, to plan a wonderful biking trip.
Those who are not ready for a real challenge or who have small
children should take advantage of a shuttle service to the mountaintop
(you'll find several of them on the website link above).
Children absolutely love riding down the mountain. We've had the
joy of riding down with small children (one as young as five)
and they loved it!
